London Transport Museum offers a range of innovative, curriculum-linked activities for secondary school students at all levels. We are currently delivering outreach sessions, and will be running Museum-based activities from January 2008. The Museum's outreach sessions, activities and study days focus on subjects including geography, history, citizenship, travel and tourism, and leisure and tourism.

Museum-based activities
Key Stage 3
Study Day: The development of London

Using a range of sources from our collections, students will investigate the development of London. Using the museum's interactive voting system they will share their ideas about the future development of the city.
A pre-visit outreach session is available to support this museum session. Follow up activities and resources are provided.
Day: Monday and Friday
Session length: 3 hours (including gallery visit).
Party size: up to 3 classes of 30

Actor-led session: London Transport and the Blitz

Working in our Shelter Underground gallery, students will work with an actor in role as an ARP warden. They will examine sources from our collections and evaluate representations of London at war and the Blitz spirit.
Day: Tuesday and Thursday
Session length: 45 minutes

Interactive Game: London's Transport - the Enterprise Story
Links to: History, Enterprise Learning and PSHE (Economic Wellbeing and Financial Capability)
This interactive game investigates the investors, entrepreneurs and other factors behind the development of London's world famous transport system. Working in teams, students take on the role of investors, managing their resources and taking investment decisions to try to build the system (and make a profit).
A pre-visit outreach session is available to support this museum session. Follow up activities and resources are provided.

Orientation session: Welcome to London Transport Museum

Prepare your group for their visit with this introduction to the displays and vehicles. Students are encouraged to start thinking about issues facing transport in London through the use of our interactive voting system.

Travel and Tourism, Leisure and Tourism
The Museum and its collections are a fantastic resource for learning about how a visitor attraction operates. Students can examine the role of marketing, visitor needs or visit planning.

Outreach Sessions

Multi-Modal Metropolis

Students assess the significance of different modes of transport to London and its people. A quiz using the museum's interactive voting equipment will consolidate their learning.
This session can stand alone or can serve as a pre-visit session. Follow up activities and resources are provided.

Congestion, pollution or solution?

Students investigate the impact that a fictional tram scheme would have on their local area. Museum collections and multi-media presentations open up the debate to your class.
This session can be enhanced by a visit to the Museum or Museum Depot in Acton Town.
Follow up activities and resources are provided to enable students to present their findings and engage in this important debate.
