Show Us Your Suburbia
'Show Us Your Suburbia' was a collection of three live flickr gallery displays that featuted in our Suburbia exhibition which closed on 29 April 2010. The results can be seen in our Show Us Your Suburbia Flickr group. In all, 129 people submitted 746 images showing suburban gardens, suburban interiors and postcards from suburbia. The rules and instructions have been left below to show you how the group was run.
The exhibition
Suburbia will tell Londoners' stories of the shaping of their city - how transport has influenced the suburbs and continues to do so. It will explore how local identity, lifestyles and architecture come together to form the reality of suburbia.
Your photo may then be chosen to become part of the Suburbia exhibition. We are looking for new images but if you have a good old postcard or photograph feel free to upload a scan of that as well. Images can taken day or night and landscape format is best. Images should be of London suburbs.

Submitting your image
To submit your photo simply join this Flickr group and upload your image. When you upload it, you will be asked to 'tag' your image. This let's us know which theme you have chosen. It may take up to a day for your photo to go live as we will moderate all images. You may up to add four photos to the group.
Each photo should fit one of the following three themes:
- Postcards from Suburbia
Houses, shops, parks, streets, cars...what does a typical suburban postcard look like to you? We already have an historic collection of postcards of suburbia but we'd like to add yours to it. - Suburban Gardens
Show us your (or your neighbours) suburban garden in all its green fingered glory you could even include the odd gardener or cheeky gnome. - Suburban Interiors
What does suburbia look like behind your net curtains? Photos can be architectural or domestic, posed or informal.

On display
Chosen photos will be displayed on screens in London galleries between October 2009 and March 2010. Throughout the summer we will highlight a selection of images that have caught our eye on this page.
Group rules

Flickr 'Transport in Minature' Scavenger Hunt 2009

The Museum Depot was full of Flickr fun on March 7th 2009 as photographers battled to complete the London in Miniature scavenger hunt. 20 people took part on the day taking over 550 photos together to complete all the cryptic clues and challenges laid out for them by their fellow Flickr quizmasters. On the day Team Feltnam (named after the Feltnam tram in the Depot, of course) romped home to win the first past the post prize. The other prize went to Estherase for her lovely photo of milk churns that was voted most interesting by Flickr viewers. Thank you to all who took part. Our Flickr group for this meet is here.

Flickr Scavenger Hunt 2008
On Sunday 6th July 2008 London Transport Museum held its first Flickr Scavenger Hunt as part of the London Festival of Architecture 2008. 25 Flickr photographers were let loose in and around Covent Garden to snap architectural transport highlights. It was a great day out as you can see from all the creative and interesting photographs on Flickr. Following a public vote with over 400 votes cast the prize for Best Team Effort went to Team Angel (below) for their attempt to capture the day's targets.

The prize for Photograph of the Day went to Jack Pandemian for her wonderful photo of roundels on benches displayed below. She received an ipod shuffle.

Team Elephant and Castle (below) won the first past the post prize on the day. Solving all the clues and making it back to the Museum before anyone else.

Thank you to everyone that participated in the event.
Last Stop Competition Winner
![]()
To celebrate the Last Stop exhibition we held a competition on Flickr to see who could best capture the essence of the Routemaster! This is the winning image chosen by exhibition artist Ralf Obergefell.
Ralf says the winner, Aston, "captures particularly well the design elements and details of the Routemasters exterior. In addition to the details of the bus, he also incorporates other London objects, which he frames in a beautiful juxtaposition...The bright red routemaster bonnet with the smiley round headlight sitting within, a strong juxtaposition with a city worker dressed in dark clothing walking across the street."
Congratulations to Aston, who will receive a signed copy of the 'Last Stop' book.

'What's Cooking?' New Routes Project
![]()
London Transport Museum has been cooking up a storm with the United Anglo-Caribbean Society in Acton. Four delicious recipes are yours to try at home as the result of a four month project exploring the Museum's catering collection with a local community group.
Taking inspiration from objects, archival film and oral history interviews the group have adapted dishes once served in London Transport canteens to represent their own tastes and cultures. Project workshops varied from practical cookery sessions to story sharing sessions.
Recipe cards are available in all Ealing libraries, in the Museum's Learning Lounge and online.

'What's Cooking?' is part of London Transport Museum's New Routes projects, a programme of community exhibitions and partnerships aimed at involving new audiences. New Routes forms part of the Revisiting Collections initiative that extends across all London Hub museums and is funded by MLA London.
