The Friends recently purchased this photograph for the Museum's collection. It depicts a very early Tilling horse bus. The photo is believed to have been taken outside the Tilling offices in Peckham.
Our 5000th New Member
At the Friends' meeting on 24th January, Ian Arthurton presented Museum Retail Manager, Michael Walton, with the 5000th Friends' membership card. This recognised the substantial support that Michael had given to the Friends over many years. In thanking the Friends for this honour, Michael said that he was now looking forward to the benefit of a discount on purchases in his own shop.
Ken Glazier bequest
Graham Page writes:
One year ago we reported the sad and sudden death of Ken Glazier. Ken generously bequeathed his entire transport collection to the Museum and the Omnibus Society. The transfer eventually took place towards the end of last year, when a small working party of LTMF and OS members removed all the material, transport kindly being provided by the Museum.
Ken's collection embraced large quantities of books, magazines, timetables, photographs, maps, traffic circulars and allocation books, together with some tickets and small objects. Much of this has now been sorted and integrated into the collections. Many of the books have been absorbed into the Museum Library to create a duplicate reference facility at the Depot. Several files of information papers grouped under subject headings have also been taken into the Library for research access. Some of the surplus items were successfully sold by the Friends at the recent Depot Open Weekend, thus raising valuable funds for Museum conservation work or for the future purchase of small objects for the Collections.
Q-stock grant unsuccessful.
The HLF has turned down the grant application for funding towards the Q-stock restoration. This has caused a rethink of the project's aims and how they are best progressed. Read more about the Heritage Underground trains.
