Show Us Your Suburbia

'Show Us Your Suburbia' was a collection of three live flickr gallery displays that featuted in our Suburbia exhibition which closed on 29 April 2010. The results can be seen in our Show Us Your Suburbia Flickr group. In all, 129 people submitted 746 images showing suburban gardens, suburban interiors and postcards from suburbia. The rules and instructions have been left below to show you how the group was run.

The exhibition

Suburbia will tell Londoners' stories of the shaping of their city - how transport has influenced the suburbs and continues to do so. It will explore how local identity, lifestyles and architecture come together to form the reality of suburbia.

Your photo may then be chosen to become part of the Suburbia exhibition. We are looking for new images but if you have a good old postcard or photograph feel free to upload a scan of that as well. Images can taken day or night and landscape format is best. Images should be of London suburbs.

Submitting your image
To submit your photo simply join this Flickr group and upload your image. When you upload it, you will be asked to 'tag' your image. This let's us know which theme you have chosen. It may take up to a day for your photo to go live as we will moderate all images. You may up to add four photos to the group.

Each photo should fit one of the following three themes:

  1. Postcards from Suburbia
Houses, shops, parks, streets, cars...what does a typical suburban postcard look like to you? We already have an historic collection of postcards of suburbia but we'd like to add yours to it.
  2. Suburban Gardens
Show us your (or your neighbours) suburban garden in all its green fingered glory you could even include the odd gardener or cheeky gnome.
  3. Suburban Interiors
What does suburbia look like behind your net curtains? Photos can be architectural or domestic, posed or informal.

On display
Chosen photos will be displayed on screens in London galleries between October 2009 and March 2010. Throughout the summer we will highlight a selection of images that have caught our eye on this page.
