National Poetry Day - Poetry Slam
Skip to navigationMembers of the Rise Londonwide Youth Slam Championships unleashed a torrent of energy and creativity at the 'slam' event in the Museum's Cubic Theatre on Thursday 4th October 2007 to celebrate National Poetry Day.
Stephanie Turner and Onome Edgeworth have been awarded the title of Performance Poet-in-Residence at London Transport Museum, for a joint performance that was judged the best on the night.
Turner and Edgeworth will host poetry events at the Museum and create a specially commissioned poem.
Slamming, the competitive art of performance poetry, is now one of the most popular forms of spoken word. It's a high energy art form, and the audience is as much an integral part of the slam experience as the poets.
Naturally fast-moving, the Slam reflected the pace and vibrancy of London, and the experience of the new Museum, which reopened on 22 November 2007.
